The scholarship given by the festival is The Gueydan Duck Festival – Ronnie Lougon Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is based on academics, activities, need, and community involvement. It is awarded to one male student and one female student and presented in two increments. $500 is given at graduation and $500 following the first semester in college upon achieving at least a 2.5 GPA.

Ronnie Lougon was a long time member of the Gueydan Duck Festival Association
and served as president of the organization from 1989 until 2013. Lougon not only
gave his time and attention to the festivals needs during the month of August, but also
gave countless hours during the year leading up to festival time.
Every aspect of the event from setup to cleanup, dressing up as a duck, and endless
hours of promoting the festival has been coordinated and carried out by Lougon at one
time or another. Behind the scenes of the organization, throughout years past, Lougon
organized and led the members to keep the festival’s best interest when making tough
decisions.
He gave his time tirelessly and was often asked where his drive came from, to which
he would always smile and reply, “it just happens”.
Lougon passed away on January 31, 2017. He leaves behind his wife, the former
Beverly Hoffpauir, one son Troy, and one daughter Tonya, and two grandsons, Bolden
and Brayden.
If you ever happened to catch a glimpse of Lougon during the festival you saw him
working hard to keep everything running smoothly but you would have also noticed a
smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes that told you he enjoyed what he did.
